consent

In short and in plain language

Consent is when a person says yes, for example to the use of their data.

It must be given freely. The person must know what it is about and agree in a clear way.

On websites it is often about cookies, statistics, embedded content or a newsletter.

A box that is ticked in advance is usually not enough. People can also take back their consent.

Definition
Consent is a person's voluntary, informed and unambiguous agreement, for example to the processing of their data. On websites it often concerns cookies, statistics services, embedded content or a newsletter. A pre-ticked box is generally not enough, and consent can be withdrawn.
