Web, domains and email
ICANN
Abbreviation for Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers
In short and in plain language
ICANN is a non-profit group.
It steers how domain names and web addresses are given out across the world.
It sets rules for endings like .com or .org. One example is a change of provider.
If a site has such an ending, these rules can matter when the domain moves.
Definition
ICANN is a non-profit organisation that coordinates the allocation of domain names and internet addresses worldwide. Among other things, it sets rules for generic domain endings such as .com or .org, for example for changing providers. For a website with such an ending, these rules can matter when the domain is moved.
